Bajaj Auto Names Abraham Joseph as MD of Chetak Technology


Bajaj Auto Ltd announced significant leadership changes, appointing Abraham Joseph as Managing Director of its electric vehicle arm, Chetak Technology Ltd (CTL), and naming Ramtilak Ananthan as Chief Technology Officer of Bajaj Auto Ltd (BAL). The company aims to accelerate technological innovation and strengthen its position in existing and emerging mobility segments.


Joseph, a veteran at Bajaj Auto with over 35 years of experience, will lead CTL's transformation into a high-tech organization focusing on developing core competencies in advanced automotive technologies. Under his leadership, CTL will explore the potential of hydrogen vehicles, expanding Bajaj Auto's portfolio to include technologically differentiated products.


As Chief Technology Officer at BAL, Joseph played a pivotal role in developing renowned brands like Pulsar and launching standout products across various segments, including Platina, CT, Boxer, Discover, V, Avenger, and Dominar. He also oversaw the development of numerous three-wheeler products for both cargo and passenger segments, spanning various fuel variants such as petrol, diesel, LPG, CNG, and electric. Additionally, Joseph led the launch of India's first quadricycle, Qute.


In the past six years, Joseph was instrumental in establishing and expanding the EV R&D organization, Chetak Technology R&D. His expertise in the EV domain has been critical in the development of electric vehicles at Bajaj Auto.


Ananthan, with over 30 years of experience at Bajaj Auto, will assume the role of CTO. He has demonstrated expertise in product development and testing, previously serving as Vice President R&D in 2013. During his tenure, he successfully transitioned all Bajaj Auto products to BS4 norms and later, as Head Test & Validation, managed the complete test and validation function.


Ananthan played a crucial role in transitioning Bajaj Auto products to meet BS6 and OBD2A norms. His extensive experience and track record make him a valuable asset to Bajaj Auto as the company focuses on driving innovation and staying at the forefront of technological advancements in the automotive industry.
