Kiran Mazumdar Shaw is the chairperson of Bangalore-based biotechnology company Biocon. She is also the chairperson of IIM Bangalore, one of the leading business schools in India and known for its global presence as well.

She received the Othmer Gold Award in 2014 and has been on the top ranking of the powerful women list. She started Biocon India in 1978 in the garage of her rented house in Bangalore with a seed capital of just Rs.10,000.

She has won several prestigious awards, including Nikkei Asia Prize (2009), Economic Times ‘Businesswoman of the Year’ award, and The Indian Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award.
