China Will See 'Made In India' Phones By Samsung

Bangalore: Samsung which launched its Rex series Smartphones last week plans to sell these ‘made in India’ Phones in the China market.

South Korean handset maker which developed the Rex series at its Research and Development Centre in New Delhi, will sell the handsets in other growing markets, West Asian Countries, including China and Common Wealth of Independent States, besides India, said Asim Warsi, Vice President of Mobile Business, Samsung Electronics.

At present most of the mobile handsets sold in India are imported from China. They are either completely built or in knocked down versions.

While Nokia’s Asha series consist of touch and non-touch screen phones, Samsung’s Rex series will only have the touch screen versions. The price of these dual SIM handsets will range from Rs. 4280 to Rs. 6490. The initial four models of the Rex handset will primarily take on Nokia’s popular Asha series which has 11 models in the price range of Rs. 3500 – Rs. 8700 – a segment which Nokia entered in more than year back.

Samsung’s Rex series which are known to be ‘people-inspired innovations’ according to Younghee Lee, Executive Vice President at Samsung Electronics are developed for Indian consumers and will soon hit the Indian stores.
