BENGALURU: Happy news if you are a billionaire! The ultimate “bad boy” among cars, Lamborghini has announced that the company will double its total production to about 7000 cars by the year 2019. Lamborghini expects its sales to peak after the launch of Urus, the Italian carmaker’s first ever SUV. With the Urus all set to arrive in late 2017 or early 2018, the company has already begun preparations for meeting the surge in demand.

As part of its plans to increase sales, Lamborghini will raise its worldwide dealer network to 160 from the current 132. Also, the company has invested a significant sum for doubling the capacity of its production facility– the Sant’Agata Bolognese plant. Moreover, as much as 500 employees will be added to its ranks in the coming years. “We will push like hell to sell 3,500 or more of the SUVs. It's a big game-changer,” says Lamborghini CEO Stefano Domenicali in California.

For Lambo, USA continues to be one of its major markets with almost 30 percent of its dealer network located in the country. In 2015, the company sold a record 3,245 cars worldwide out of which 1000 were delivered in the US. Though it aims to double sales, Lambo will keep the brand volume limited in order to maintain the exoticness it stands for.

Domenicali unveiled the Centenario Roadster, the open-top version of the Centenario released earlier this year. The Centenario was unveiled celebrating the 100th anniversary of its visionary founder, Ferruccio Lamborghini. With a price tag of 2 Mn US dollars excluding taxes; Lambo has already sold all of the 20 convertibles it was going to produce. For those of you (billionaires, of course) intended on buying a Lamborghini, wait for a year or so until the Urus arrives for about 200,000 US dollars. That’s about 1.8 Mn US dollars saved, isn’t it?
