For the Indian Brides-To-Be: 10 Ways to Take Care of Themselves before the Wedding

The great Indian wedding season is on! It is that time of the year when every bride-to-be makes endless plans for looking her best during and after the wedding.

Indian brides-to-be spend months in deciding their wedding date, designing the invitation cards, selecting a suitable venue, and visiting apparel stores and online shopping sites to shop for the big day. However, amidst all these preparations they often miss out on taking care of themselves.

Every bride deserves to look and feel special on her wedding day. However, a lot goes into getting that stunning and flawless look on your D-day. Here are ten pre-wedding beauty tips for brides-to-be, which will prepare you for the insane close-up photography on and after your big day.

1. Watch Your Food Intake

Stay away from high-sugar and high-sodium food items that can cause weight gain and adversely affect your skin health. Moreover, high fat intake can lead to excessive facial oil that clogs the skin pores, causing blackheads and acne. Include green vegetables, fruits, and high-fibre food that can help clear the toxins in your body, giving your skin a healthy glow.

Regardless of your skin type – oily, dry, normal or combination – it needs to be kept hydrated at all times. Drink lots of water and include vegetable and fruit smoothies and juices to prevent dehydration. Carrying hydrating food items, such as melons, grapefruits, tomatoes and cucumbers and healthy snacks to work will not only help you replenish the water and electrolytes in the body but also keep you away from junk and high-fat food items when you are hungry.

2. Exercise Regularly

Regular workout sessions will help you tighten and tone your body muscles and build the stamina that will be required to survive the back-to-back wedding ceremonies and functions. Join a gym at least three months before your wedding day and hire a personal trainer and dietician to help you achieve the desired weight loss in the problem areas, such as the thighs, the buttocks, and the abdomen.

3. Consult a Dermatologist

Only a qualified dermatologist can examine your skin and offer advice on how to effectively manage skin issues, namely the blackheads, the skin pigmentations, the stubborn scars, the sunburns, the fine lines, and the skin pits that can make your skin look dull and blemished. Depending on your skin type, he/she may either prescribe a lifestyle change or recommend clinical beauty treatments, such as peel, microdermabrasion, or laser treatments.

Book an appointment with a recommended dermatologist at least four to five months before your wedding and get yourself examined to keep a check on the above-mentioned skin conditions.

4. Follow a Skin Care Routine

Regular cleansing, toning, and moisturizing (CTM skin routine) will help keep your skin clean, nourished, and glowing at all times. Cleansing cleans the pores, toning tightens them and reduces the fine lines, and moisturizing helps lock the moisture in the skin, keeping it supple and soft.

In addition, exfoliate your skin two to three times a week using a mild scrub made of rice flour (two tablespoons), turmeric (one teaspoon), brown sugar or Epsom salt (two tablespoons), and organic olive or coconut oil (10-12 drops). This homemade scrub will get rid of the dead cells and keep your skin smooth and free of blackheads.

Once a week nourish your skin with a fruit facial pack made with mashed fruits, namely strawberries, apples, and papaya. When travelling around make sure you apply sunscreen to protect your skin from the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun.

5. Don’t Ignore Your Hands and Feet

Enrol for regular manicure and pedicure sessions in order to keep your hands and feet in good shape and prevent the possibility of chipped nails and cracked heels. Besides, frequently massaging your hands and feet with olive or almond oil at night will help keep them soft and healthy.
