Service Tax Exemption on Preventive Checkups
In a situation when preventive healthcare requires to be given a fillip, service tax on preventive health check-ups where payments are made by employer or business entity should be omitted immediately.
FICCI in a communication to the government said that it should look to fund and expand open source software which could be offered to government as well as other private hospitals to kick start acceptance of Health Information System.
To promote this move towards EHR, financial incentives or grants should be offered to willing institutions on the lines of developed countries like USA. Preventive health checkups should be exempted from service tax as rise in lifestyle diseases are emerging as a fresh challenge and preventive checks can provide timely involvement.
