India Becomes the Epicenter of Impact Investing

The reason why India has attracted impact investing is because in India investors can reach the people who are in the bottom of the Pyramid. This in turn has given rise to the need for socially impactful market-driven solutions.
Infact, Acumen which is an impact investment company has invested $31 million in India whereas its total global investment was $84 million. Though the company mainly invests to eradicate poverty, this time it has come up to make its investment in other sectors like health, energy, agriculture, water and education.
Jayant Sinha, partner & managing director, Omidyar Network India Advisors said that India is the centre of impact investment. In other words, the future of impact investing is industry globally is expected to be established in India.
As of 2012, the amount that was generated by impact investing was $100 million and it is said that the growth would increase up to 30 percent per annum according to the research by the Rockefeller Foundation.
Though there is rise in the number of social capitalism, the section “Balance of payment” has been in the least use. From this, it is very clear that there is need for expanding the existing enterprises and at the same time bring more innovations.
