Leadership Lessons for CIOs from Margaret Thatcher

Bangalore: Margaret Thatcher, Britain’s longest serving prime minister in the 20^th century, passed away last week after suffering from a massive stroke. From a common grocer’s daughter to the helm of British politics, Thatcher walked through paths that no one even dared to think of.

‘A real leader’- this is what Thatcher was all about. It’s a kind of disturbing that Thatcher was loved and at the same time, hated within and outside Britain. Loved, adored, reviled, admired, hated, awesome, loathsome, fearless, reckless, self sacrificing, self centered- conflicts and contrasts will go on. Whatever be the mind-set of people, it is crystal clear that Thatcher was well-defined according to her views and her straight forward economics.

Nonetheless, whatever be the definitions given, Thatcher was primarily praised for her decisions and beliefs; a belief that later on was certified as the answer to Britain’s economic problems.
