Transmission Schemes Worth Rs 33,900 Cr Notified In 2014-15

NEW DELHI: The government said as many as 14 transmission schemes entailing an investment of Rs. 33,900 crore have been notified, which will help import of power from Bhutan.

"With a view to encouraging participation of the private sector in building transmission capacity in India, the Government of India had notified 14 power transmission schemes worth Rs. 33,900 crore during 2014-15," the Power Ministry said.

According to the statement, these schemes will facilitate transfer of power from hydro-electric projects in Bhutan and generation-linked projects in Chhattisgarh and Odisha, which include 765 KV and 400 KV transmission programs in northern, western, southern and north-eastern regions.

According to the statement, nine schemes aggregating Rs. 12,272 crore were notified in July 2014 and 5 more totaling Rs. 21,659 crore in February 2015.

The said projects had been allocated to the Bid Process Coordinator (BPC), namely RECTPCL and PFCCL, for carrying out bidding under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) route.

According to the Ministry, a total of 22,100 circuit kilometers (CKM) of transmission lines and 65,554 megavolt ampere (MVA) transformation capacity have been achieved in 2014-15 as against the target of 20,882 CKM and 47,871 MVA, the highest ever in a year.

The Ministry had also said India has achieved the highest ever power generation capacity of 22,566 MW in 2014-15 against the target of 17,830 MW.
