If this was not enough, the insurance companies keep a track of this and they hike their insurance premiums accordingly. You will have to pay 40-60 percent higher premium for your life insurance if you are a chain smoker. For example, if a 30-year-old non-smoker pays Rs.4,100 a year for an insurance cover of Rs.50 lakh for 30 years, he will have to pay 40 percent extra which will be Rs.5,800 if he smokes. The medical insurance premium is also lower if one does not make a claim.
