2. Charges on opening a new account and not using it



Setting up a bank account to save some money is indeed a good idea, but if you don’t continue operating that account then you could be penalized. Usually banks impose a non-operative account penalty which could be around Rs.250 plus the service taxes.



 This might look like a small amount, but as they say a rupee saved is a rupee earned. To get rid of such charges the best way is to close the account which you don’t use.



3. Charges on foreign transactions



In case of foreign transactions, the foreign currency is converted into Indian rupee at a rate suggested by the network infrastructure provider. Credit card issuers will charge a certain percentage of the transaction value subject to a minimum amount for example 3.5 Percent of the transaction subject to a minimum of Rs.250.
